$10 a Day Child Care

As of April 2nd, 2023, some daycare fees are reduced to $10/day. Although this is terrific and celebrated news for many families, most media announcements around the $10/day daycare have not shared that school-age children who attend less than three (3) periods per day (before school, lunch, and after school) are not included in the $10 a day plan. This means that school-age children who attend for two (2) periods (before and after school) remain at $20.80 for all in-service days and school holidays.

Gillis Play and Learn school-age program is a 2-period program and, unfortunately, does not currently benefit from a reduction of fees with the $10/day daycare initiative. We will continue to provide accurate information, ensure parents, caregivers, and community members have ALL information related to $10/day daycare, and share any changes when they occur. We apologize if this surprises some families who were left with the impression that their fees would be reduced for their children.

For convenience, we have attached the $10 a Day Child Care FAQs found at:

https://www.manitoba.ca/education/childcare/families/pubs/faqs_10childcare.pdf

Below is the contact information for Minister Wayne Ewasko if you have any questions, concerns, or suggestions. All advocacy efforts are appreciated as we strive for affordable childcare for ALL families.

Our 'Learning Through Play' Webs

Staff use these webs to show what children with in the group are interested in. We split the web into different developmental categories, this helps us ensure we are encouraging development in multiple areas. These include such areas as physical growth, cognitive and literacy development as well as social emotional development and of course you can't forget math and science development as well. Sometimes you can even see on the webs if there is an area the children are more curious about. All activities and experiences we do with the children hits one or more of these developmental zones.
